Soul By Rachel Collins June 15, 2007 Graduating Tyndale Seminary student and Jane and Finch resident, Cheniette Hudson was awarded the Joseph McDermott Scholarship in Evangelism at the Graduation Ceremony for Tyndale University College & Seminary in May, 2007 at Queensway Cathedral in Toronto. The award was given to Cheniette in acknowledgement of her two years at Tyndale University College where she studied. She also received her Bachelor of Religious Education at the ceremony service in May. After graduating from Seneca College with a diploma in recreation, Cheniette attended Tyndale University College to receive the training needed to open her own Christian Recreation Centre. Last year, Cheniette moved closer to her dream when she started the Christian organization, Soulwise Ministries in 2006, which focuses on offering recreational events and seminars in order to support Christians. “I had a vision for a Christian recreation center in my second year of college. In the span of four years I built a ministry team and created a business plan,” explains Cheniette. In the summer of 2006, Soulwise Ministries launched its first event, a seminar/open forum on the biblical perspective of dating. Following the success of this event, Soulwise offered a more in-depth seminar on dating, which covered a wider spectrum of ideas. Events such as basketball tournaments, flag football games and team building activities are offered by the organization, and seminars include spiritual development, discipleship and dating and leadership. “I have a desire to attain my Masters Degree in Youth Ministry or Counselling. In terms of ministry, I plan to pour into God’s people,” says Cheniette, talking in particular about the youth and young adults at Tabernacle of Praise New Testament Church of God. As for a job that pays? At this point, Cheniette is uncertain as to what path she will take. Asking what this recent award from Tyndale means to her, Cheniette replies, “My award commended me on my gifts and passion for evangelism. I was greatly appreciative of my award as it was directly in line with my aspiration in ministry, and the response from my church was extremely encouraging.” |
