Paul Nguyen selected the Boat People Monument as the recipient a grant of $5,000 he won as the Ontario Community Leader for the 2018 Canada's Volunteer Awards. In September 2007, the Art Gallery of York University organized Black Creek United, an interdisciplinary art workshop that took place at The Spot.	Mark Simms visited Ms. DeSantis' class at St. Francis DeSales to give a presentation to the students. The class worked on murals to show their thoughts about living in the area.

The Ministry of Attorney General presents a United Way screening of CBC's Lost in the Struggle. Mark Simms and Paul Nguyen were in attendance to give a short presentation.	Many local Churches in the Jane-Finch area and neighbors held the 2007 Together for Jesus caravan parade. The parade toured the streets along Driftwood Avenue.
