Sabrina ‘Butterfly’
GoPaul is Head News Correspondent for Jane-Finch.com. She is
also a former host for York University’s CHRY 105.5 FM. Since
her transition from CKHC 96.9 FM Radio Humber and Humber TV,
where she graduated in Journalism Print & Broadcast with honours
(and also earned the Board of Governors Achievement Award), she
remains involved with numerous community initiatives.
A mother of two boys – 20-year-old son ‘Zea’ and three-year-old
Zakiah – Butterfly is a product of Jane/Finch life herself and
is no stranger to the struggle. Vocal about children/youth
issues, women issues, education and police brutality, she voices
passionate viewpoints about her experiences and her vision for
Jane/Finch.
Butterfly is an active leader in the Jane/Finch community and is
determined to showcase the positive side of our turf and create
platforms to tell community stories. Butterfly is a recipient of
many awards, including: the 2011 Volunteer Service Award from
the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, the 2012
Equity and Diversity Award from the Toronto Youth Cabinet and
City of Toronto, 2013 Min Sook Lee Labour Arts Award, and 2014
International Women Achieves’ Award in Community Development, as
well as the 2015 OPSEU Region 5 recognition for outstanding
human rights work.
