September 22, 2011 - The
Elspeth Hayworth Centre for Women organized a provincial
candidates debate for York West in the Jane Finch Mall. In
attendance were the 4 major candidates, including incumbent
Liberal MPP Mario Sergio, Green Party candidate Joseph Rini,
Conservative Party candidate Karlene Nation and NDP
candidate Tom Rakocevic. Jane-Finch.com founder Paul Nguyen
served as the guest MC and moderator.
The debate highlights included a spirited debate among the
candidates. Residents of the Jane-Finch area were given an
opportunity to ask questions, where some vented anger and
frustration with unemployment, accessibility, housing, and
funding to local social services and programs.
